Use of NLN Surveys and Research Instruments
The NLN has developed several surveys and research instruments. If you wish to use or modify any of the tools for which the NLN holds copyright, you must obtain written permission to do so. In most instances, requests for permission are approved within two weeks of their receipt. Requests to use surveys or instruments for nursing education research usually are approved with no fees to members. Non-members will be charged a fee. Requests to reproduce the tools in books or electronic media that will be sold through an organization or publisher are typically approved upon payment of a fee.
To request permission to use or modify any of the NLN surveys or instruments, please submit a letter, fax, or email to Research Division, National League for Nursing, 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, NY 10006, (Phone) 800-669-1656 x512, (Fax) 212-812-0393, (Email) research@nln.org. Include your NLN membership number.
Your request must include (a) a clear
and concise statement of the research problem; (b) the complete
citation for the original work in which the survey or instrument
appears; (c) the name of the survey or instrument as named
in the NLN work, with the page number(s) on which that material
appears, when applicable; (d) a description of how the survey
or tool will be used; (e) if the tool will be modified,
describe in detail the modifications that will be made;
(f) if applicable, a copy of IRB approval for the research
project; and (g) a instrument
request form.
You will receive a written response regarding your request, including any caveats that must be respected regarding citations and wording that must be used if the tool is modified. In addition, if a fee is charged, you will receive an invoice; the fee must be paid before the survey or instrument is sent to you. If your request is denied, you will receive an explanation for that decision.
