Course 1:
Getting Started: An Introduction to Choosing and Using Web Course Management Software

Available for 10 CE contact hours.

Instructor: Amy Arthur, NP, PhD

In this course, participants learn about and practice using a course management software program. The learning activities include practice chats and the development of a homepage. A scavenger hunt will be done so the participants can locate technology tools and support services at their own location. The course will require 8-10 hours of time to review and interact with the course content and to complete designated activities.

This course should be completed before enrollment in courses 2, 3, and 4.

Course 2:
Designing Web Pages for Web Courses

Available for 17.6 CE contact hours.

Instructor: Jan Buhmann, MS, RN, BC

This course will provide an overview of the design of Web-based courses in academic settings and healthcare organizations.  It will allow participants the opportunity to develop a learning segment, from design through implementation. During the course participants will learn to: explain the context in which various Web education tools are used; assess institutional infrastructure and factors impacting Web course development; develop measurable learning outcomes; develop course pages using a simple Web editor; edit images for use on the Web; and implement effective Web and instructional design principles.

 

Participants should complete Course 1: "Getting Started" before enrolling in this course or have experience as an instructor in using course management software, such as WebCT.

Course 3:
Teaching and Evaluation in Web-Based Courses

Available for 20 CE contact hours.

Instructor: Amy Arthur, PhD, NP

Participants will use threaded discussion boards, chat rooms, learner assessment surveys, multimedia, and interactive teaching, learning, and evaluation strategies. A commitment of approximately 20 hours will be necessary to interact with the course content and materials, and to participate in discussion and chat work groups.

Participants must complete Course 1, "Getting Started," before enrolling in this course or be able to use course management software.

Course 4:
Practicum: the Development of a Web-Based Course

Available for 20 CE contact hours

Consultants:  Janet Phillips, MS, RN; IUSON Instructional Resources Team

 
The Practicum is the culmination of the certificate program.  During the first courses participants will have developed a learning module or segment.   The completed learning segment will be reviewed and critiqued by both instructional consultants and peers. 

Participants must have completed the first three course before enrolling in Practicum.
